Aayirathil oruvan review

When was the last time we saw an adventure, fantasy genre in tamil cinema, here we have selvaraghavan's Ayirathil oruvan. The story starts with pratap bothan - an archaeologist who goes missing in a remote desert region.

Q.1 Why he goes there?
He goes in search of chozha's who were refugees to this place some few hundred years back.
Q.2 Who is his daughter?
Andrea.. as simple as that..

So a team headed by our reema along with andrea and alagam perumal heads there. Mission starts...

Meanwhile karthi and his gang are helpers who are taken in ship with the crew. The difficulties they encounter before reaching the chozha province should have looked good at least in script but not on screen, felt sorry for some poor vfx, which has made things really worse for selva.
Parthiban's acting surely deserves an applause. the whole chozha empire there is said to be waiting for an informer from tanjore(home). The scene where the women shows her open breast and spills blood instead of milk to fetch her food from the king is sensational. That depicts the famine of the province. Vairamuthu's words are worth a mention (nelladia nilam).
Surprise! Reema shows her tiger emblem and tells she is the informer. Many scenes towards climax reminds me of the elysium from gladiator, war sequence from 300, and deporting the tribes from apacalypto. Making the queen dance for some kuthu song is terrible imagination.
Did the chozha's last, what happens to the king, who is the man in thousand?
All takes us to a thrilling climax..
On a whole it looked as if there is an hidden intrusion relating to the sufferings of tamilians in Ealam. Especially the final portion of the movie had the flavours of their cruel tortures and the way the women were treated. If that was the intention hats off to selva.

Babam Ve Oglum (2005)

(My Father and My Son) is what it is called in English. this film has plenty to ponder about father son relationship as the name itself suggests.

The story starts with a maternal death and sadik is the father of the child losing his mother. the child is brought up by his maid while sadik is in jail due to some political calamity. When returned from jail he feels lost and wants to return to his native to be with his Father, Mother, his very emotional elder brother and all his close relatives.
The sleepless nights and hallucinations by sadik strongly depicts the kind of treatment he had in jail. On reaching his village, he gets no welcome from his father who always wanted him to study agriculture.
The picture slowly shows us the way Hussain - sadik's father loved him and his 8 yr old son. In one instance hussain buys books for his grandson without other family members knowledge.
It is showed that sadik has fallen ill due to water accumulation in lungs, due to which he dies. The Sweet argument between him and his father before his death is a master piece.
The secret room which is always forbidden for the kid is at last shown to him by his grand father. the room has a video recorder and a projector which has old videos of boyhood sadik and his brother.
The camcorder is now given to the kid by hussain. and is raised by them. The instance when the kid is asked to go to school after a group photo, the kid falls into tears asking for his father, they all try to console him and hussain his grandpa keeps crying.
This Turkish delight strongly depicts the father son relationship.

I would recommend this for you if you love your father or son:)
